Shooting the film

I am very superstitious about making films which means I don't like to say good things too soon. So without too much celebration, let me just say that the shoot last weekend went very well. It was a bit slow but short of any disasters such as camera scratches or bad lenses etc I think there is going to be some beautiful footage. Susan was a dream to work with and so was the crew and location. Of the shoots I've produced and directed, so far this has been the smoothest.

Here are some shots from the first day of shooting.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for you. That must be why it's going so well! Break a leg.

Michele posted about this a few posts ago. Its a short Documentary about Susan Russell who is an Episcopalian periest at All Saints Church here in Pasadena. She is also in the national spotlight for her advocacy for full inclusion for gay and lesbian folks in the church and the culture at large, including gay marriage. She has an interesting personal story and her advocacy really arises from the core of Christ's teachings. So she is a great character, a theologian who thrives on community and who challenges some deeply ingrained traditional notions through her invatation to community. I am making the film for an international documentary project called Super 8 Citizen, a group of filmmakers from around the world creating short works that address different aspects of the concept of citizenship. there you have it.
